Key Responsibilities
As a Literacy Content Specialist, you will report to the Literacy Manager and collaborate with a team of experts to improve student outcomes through the CPS Instructional Core Vision.
- Strategic Planning: Contribute to initiatives designed to increase literacy equity for Black, Latinx, multilingual learners, and students with disabilities.
- Professional Learning: Design and lead high-quality professional development for Network Chiefs, school leaders, and teacher leaders.
- Skyline Curriculum Support: Facilitate the adoption and continuous improvement of Skyline, the district’s universal curriculum.
- Resource Development: Create district-wide instructional guidance focusing on diverse texts, extensive discussion, and digital content creation.
- Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Work with MTSS and post-secondary teams to ensure a holistic approach to literacy.
Qualifications & Requirements
To be successful in this role, candidates must demonstrate a deep commitment to antiracist pedagogy and adult learning.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s preferred).
- Certification: Valid ISBE Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsements. (Out-of-state candidates must obtain ISBE licensure within 6 months).
- Experience:
- 5+ years of classroom teaching (ELA preferred).
- 3+ years of teacher leadership (curriculum development, data analysis).
- 3+ years facilitating professional learning for adult learners.
- Residency: Must establish residency within the City of Chicago within six months of hire.
